I received this email earlier today:
“I am not interested in learning Qigong as I read a book about it, tried the exercises associated with it and decided that it was not comprehensive as there are more than 6 organs in the body.”
Apparently, whatever book this person read didn’t explain this very well. It’s also a good reason not to just read a book about this stuff!
First of all, there are many types of Qigong. Organ-based qigong is only one type.
But more importantly, in Qigong, “organs” refers to systems, not to individual organs.
For example, when I or another master says “kidneys”, we’re not referring to just the bean-shaped organs that most people think of. We’re referring to the entire uro-genital system. That would include all the organs involved with the reproductive and urinary systems.
So a Qigong “organ” usually includes several organs. I’m sorry no one ever explained this to this person. Qigong is much more comprehensive than she was led to think.
